Hawaii-based sunglasses and eyewear brand, Maui Jim, renowned for its superior lens technology and premium collection, has signed an agreement with Jorge Campillo.
The golf player from Caceres, Spain, joins Miguel Angel Jimenez, Robert Karlsson and Renato Paratore as an ambassador, reinforcing the brand’s commitment and involvement with the world of golf.
Maui Jim has been activating different European Tour tournaments since 2007 and for the last 4 years has been an official sponsor of the BMW PGA Championship and the BMW International Open.
Jorge Campillo, one of Spain’s top golf players on the European Tour, turned professional in 2009 after graduating from Indiana University in the USA.
He clinched the Big Ten Conference’s “triple crown” in 2008, taking the season-long “Golfer of the Year” award, earning the Les Bolstad Award for low stroke average and winning the Big Ten individual championship.
Born in Caceres, Spain, Jorge’s breakthrough year was 2011 when he recorded two runner-up finishes on the Challenge Tour, in the Acaya Open and the Rolex Trophy, on his way to ninth place in the rankings of the Challenge Tour and promotion to the European Tour.
He quickly made a name for himself on the European Tour, where he finished in a tie for second place at the Avantha Masters in New Delhi, India in February 2012. He also tied for second place in the Nelson Mandela Championship in December 2013 and in the Tshwane Open in March 2017, and was runner-up in the 2018 Maybank Championship.
This 2019 season started well with two more runner-up finishes, in the Oman Open and the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters, and his first European Tour win (by two strokes) at the Trophée Hassan II. Jorge now sits 68th on the Official World Golf ranking and 6th in the Race to Dubai.
Jorge Campilo commented saying: “I have worn Maui Jim sunglasses for a while now and being able to actually represent the brand on tour is an honour. Their lens technology is incredible. I’m able to enjoy the true colours of the beautiful places we’re playing at, and still finish the day feeling rested. This is what sets Maui Jim apart from other manufacturers. Thanks to their wide range of models, I can wear Maui Jim while enjoying time out in the city and while playing on the golf course. I am really happy to be part of this family”.
Renaud Schneider, European Sponsorship Manager of Maui Jim, added: “We’re thrilled to welcome Jorge to our Maui Jim ‘Ohana (Hawaiian family) and continue to spread our Aloha spirit whilst also communicating the importance of wearing high quality eyewear. It’s a pleasure and honour to partner with him and we wish him all of the best next week in Valderrama.”
