From 26th November to 9th January at the MC SELVINI space in Via Poerio in Milan, some of the great classics by Alvar and Aino Aalto, Ilmari Tapiovaara, Tapio Wirkkala, and Yrjö Kukkapuro will be on display. The Artek – Art & Technology exhibition, created to celebrate the eightieth anniversary of the founding of the company of the same name also gives the public the chance to view numerous contemporary designs by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, Hella Jongerius, and Konstantin Grcic accompanied by drawings and photographs.
Artek sprang from the ideas of four young idealists, the architects Alvar and Aino Aalto, the benefactor Maire Gullichsen and the art historian Nils–Gustav Hahl in Helsinki in 1935. Artek‘s founders conceived it as a platform for modern art, industry, interior design and, more generally, as a manifesto of ideas. Then as now Artek continues to go beyond new barriers between the meeting of design, architecture and art, creating pieces that are extraordinary in their clarity, functionality and poetic simplicity. Founded in 1926, MC Selvini is a historic retail partner of Artek: there couldn’t be a better platform on which to present the Artek – Art & Technology exhibition.
More information about the exhibition can be found on the company website.
