Open to the public until 6th May at Cusano Milanino municipal building an exhibition which invites visitors to discover this extraordinary edifice and its designer Vico Magistretti (Milan, 1920-2006), one of the greatest architects and designers of the mid-1900s onwards.
The title of the exhibition, “Essenziale Magistretti” (“Essential Magistretti”), curated by architect Andrea Cassone – CSA Classica, makes reference to the particular charm of a building whose modernity has remained intact even after many years.
With extensive documentation and documentary videos, the exhibition will trace the project’s history and bring out its highly innovative aspects. The Cusano municipal building is an essential building that eschews the use of precious materials, relying solely on design to express the monumental nature required to make this sort of public venue stand out.
Two large sections of the exhibition will be dedicated to Vico Magistretti, tracing his education, professional life, and projects, also focusing on little-known aspects.
The exhibition will also provide an occasion to reflect on the potential extension and adaptation of the building to the new requirements of the Municipality, using the project proposed by Magistretti himself in 2003 as a starting point. In order to make room for these reflections, various activities will be carried out alongside the exhibition, including an afternoon studio session (Tuesday 16th April from 3.30pm to 6:30pm) and an “educational” meeting open to the public (Friday 3rd May from 3.30pm to 6:30pm).
