To mark the fifth anniversary of the opening of the Italian office of Artcurial in Milan and the arrival of Emilie Volka – the new Director of Artcurial Italia – from 15th to 18th November 2017 the auction house is presenting an important work by Giacomo Balla. This significant pre-futuristic piece titled Agave sul mare will later be put up for auction in Paris during the season’s prestigious impressionist and modern art sale on 27th November 2017.
Agave sul mare
by Giacomo Balla is seen as the closure of the painter’s neo-impressionist phase and contains the germ of Futurism that would manifest itself in his work starting from 1909.
It is an important canvas which allows us to understand the artist’s stylistic evolution and his inclusion into the contemporary climate which at that time stood out among the avant-garde European painters.

The other important event is the succession of Emilie Volka to Gioia Sardagna Ferrari.
A professional in the art market, Emilie was involved in the setting-up of Cambi’s Milan office thereby establishing the Genoese fashion house in the Lombardy capital. Today Emilie Volka’s considerable skills will be put to the service of Artcurial taking an active part in the company’s expansion in Italy.
