Art is at home in Bologna

“With its 2019 edition, Arte Fiera is embarking on a process of renewal in every area, from its graphic image to its public programme. The event’s focal point is its overwhelmingly Italian character, but with quality of an international standard: it highlights its modernity and post-war art, but also looks at contemporary trends, strengthening its links with Bologna and the surrounding area.” Thus Arte Fiera’s Artistic Director Simone Menegoi presented the new edition of the long-awaited Bolognese appointment with modern and contemporary art which will be held from 1st to 4th February 2019 at the city’s exhibition site.
Menegoi’s artistic management programme is this year presenting an edition full of new features, aiming to focus on in-depth study and specialization and encouraging gallery owners to present ambitious and curatorial projects.

In addition to the main event, the seventh edition of ART CITY Bologna will also take place from 1st to 3rd February 2019. This institutional programme of exhibitions, events and special initiatives is promoted by the City of Bologna in collaboration with BolognaFiere.
Coordinated by the Modern and Contemporary Art Area of the Bologna Museums Institution, for the second consecutive year ART CITY Bologna is being directed by Lorenzo Balbi, artistic director of MAMbo – Museum of Modern Art in Bologna. The core of the three day weekend event has been expanded to become a real art week that starting from 25th January, is presenting a calendar of inaugurations leading up to the opening of Arte Fiera on February 1st: this is not just a simple schedule of sideshows but a genuine contemporary festival that involves and connects the best on offer in one of the city’s most vibrant moments.
All the listed events will once again be united by three key elements: monographic projects by established artists or emerging young people, presented by a curator and conceived in relation to a specific space including previously unseen places not normally accessible to the public for exhibition purposes.
