Until June 3rd 2018 you can admire MANGASIA: Wonderlands of Asian Comics, the first international exhibition dedicated to the Asian comic strip in the splendid setting of the Villa Reale in Monza. The exhibition, inaugurated last 10th April, has been enriched with a new work created by the famous tape artist NO CURVES. For its author the piece entitled NEON SAKURA is “a tribute to the colourful world of Japan, starting from Kawaii culture, Tamagotchi virtual pets, cyber-dolls and including cosplayers inspired by the characters and souls of Manga. An imaginary robot dressed as a gentle bear contains within itself the concepts of juvenile artifice and immaturity and which holds a cherry blossom (sakura in Japanese), a symbol of fragility, rebirth and existential beauty“.
NO CURVES interprets the aesthetics of comics and Japanese pop culture without curved lines, here celebrated through the use of fluorescent adhesive tapes that through careful overlapping and geometric intertwining give life to a double piece of work, a sculpture measuring over 2 meters and its illustrated counterpart.
