PERSOL TYPEWRITE EDITION: VINTAGE FLAVOUR FOR TRUE EYEWEAR LOVERS
This time, Persol’s focus for its new eyewear collection is an object from the very recent past: the magnificent and eternally fascinating typewriter.
Synonymous with Italian style, Persol continues its journey through the design of some of the most iconic objects of our past. The new chapter is the Typewriter Edition collection. Sadly, now-a-days, the typewriter has been replaced by the much less charming computer. Nonetheless, fortunately, the evocative power of these old machines remains undimmed. The typewrite has now become a cult object for those, like Persol, who yearn to rediscover the rhythms and habits of yesteryear. A new way of leaving, a new relaxed attitude where the word “stress” does not exist in your dictionary.
It’s a sophisticated legacy that Persol interprets – using the finest materials and its own artisanal savoir faire – with innovative flourishes that characterize the four pieces in the Typewriter collection, made up of two pairs of sunglasses and two pairs of regular frames. The newly-designed metallic bridge, for example, is embellished with subtle etching, whilst rivets bearing the letters of the old keyboards adorn the frames. The legendary American Typewriter font is used to engrave the collection’s name into the inside of the stems, the tips of which carry a radial motif in a clear nod to the mechanics of the old machines.
The typewrite and the evergreen Italian brand have so combined together to create a product for real eyewear lovers who want to be up-to-date appreciating, though, the objects of design with a vintage flavour.
