The exhibition Istruzioni per abitare la città. Opere e ricerche nell’ambiente urbano dal 1969 al 2017 (Instructions for living in the city. Works and research in the urban environment from 1969 to 2017) dedicated to Ugo La Pietra is open to the public at the CIAC Italian Contemporary Art Centre in Foligno until 30th September 2018.
Curated by Italo Tomassoni, Giacinto Di Pietrantonio and Giancarlo Partenzi, it looks back at the many areas in which La Pietra was involved.
An architect by training, an artist, filmmaker, editor, musician, cartoonist and teacher, Ugo la Pietra moved simultaneously through the worlds of art and design from 1960 onwards. Urban space was constantly taken into consideration by La Pietra as an organized structure and the place in which his artistic and provocative design practices germinated.
Through a hundred or so two-dimensional works, some video clips, three-dimensional objects and an installation, the exhibition develops along a path full of visual suggestions.
At the heart of the exhibition there is also an “Open House”, a full-scale structure with a series of furnishings created through the practice that the author defined as “design reconversion” in which a number of elements of urban furniture are converted into elements of home furnishings.
A video projection room presents three films by La Pietra: “Per oggi basta” (1974), “La riappropriazione della città” (1977) and “ Interventi pubblici per la città di Milano ” (1979).
A complete and in many ways spectacular show and an opportunity to see the multi-faceted results of the research carried out by Ugo La Pietra.
