The 57th Venice International Art Exhibition will be open to the public from Saturday May 13th to Sunday November 26th 2017 at the Giardini and the Arsenale. The 2017 edition is entitled VIVA ARTE VIVA curated by Christine Macel and chaired by Paolo Baratta. However the Italian Pavilion at the Tese delle Vergini in the Arsenale will be curated this year by Cecilia Alemani.
The main exhibition will be supported by 85 National Participations in the historic pavilions in the Giardini, the Arsenale and in various other locations around the historic old part of Venice.
The exhibition presents a journey that unfolds around nine schools or families of artists,
with two initial sections in the Central Pavilion in the Giardini and seven other sections that extend through the works of a good 120 artists from the Arsenale to the Giardino delle Vergini.
“This exhibition is inspired by humanism […] It is a humanism in which the artistic act is a simultaneous act of resistance, liberation and generosity” says Christine Macel. “VIVA ARTE VIVA is thus an exclamation, an expression of the passion for art and for the figure of the artist” continues the curator. “VIVA ARTE VIVA is a Biennial event with artists, by artists and for artists.”This edition will also include selected Collateral Events, presented by international organizations and institutions who will organize their own exhibitions and events in Venice
conjunction with the 57th Exhibition.
